The Power of NO

Writer: Sarah StiebySarah Stieby

Anyone who has ever faced the challenge of generating new business may tell you it can be grueling work. I was once told to have empathy for the sales team as they hear no everyday for days on end. That was during a time when I was focusing on a single account and earning great success in organic growth. I had never worked on new business so I took the comment as truth.

Today I am focused on building new business relationships to get Brand Simply running full speed and I can't help but reflect back to that comment. First I question their new business strategy if they heard no that often but more importantly I find the best motivation is being told "No."

Maybe it is why I prefer being the underdog and supporting challenger brands. There is no greater rush than making the seemingly impossible a reality. Tell me it can't be done and I will find a way. It fuels my determination and gives me purpose. It caused my parents' heartburn during my teenage years but that same drive has been the foundation of building trust and respect with my clients.

Rejection can suck, or it can be a gift.

While I except it with a gracious smile, my fire is lit to win.
